Sarah Austin
Graphic Designer
I first started my creative journey by completing a Bachelor of Media Arts, where I majored in Graphic Design while also interning at a local design company.

Finding creative ways to showcase someone's brand/product is always a lot of fun. I enjoy both digital and print based design but print based has always been very important to me. To have an item you can physically hold on to and know all the hard work that has been put into the final piece brings joy to me.
After this I then went on to work for one of New Zealand’s largest companies, spending 4+ years as a graphic designer there. This was my first job that allowed me to learn more about digital design and marketing. I met many people that inspired me to learn and better myself in this industry. My love for digital design grew and I became more aware of how important it is.
My previous design work includes creating high quality banners, advertisements and image editing for an online retail store and emails. I was also able to gain some knowledge in product photography and assist in staging lifestyle images.
The fast-paced environment meant I needed to react swiftly; I was able to adapt quickly in this setting which has helped me be able to complete tasks at a high quality in limited time.
Graphic design is my passion. I love finding and researching different projects and I’m always looking for new ways to improve my skill set. I understand the effectiveness of each project, and how each is a learning curve that I can learn from, in both my past and present designs.

Bachelors of Media Arts (Moving Image) - Production design
Production design is about understanding the overall themes of a project and producing visual components which help tell a story. I focused on the setting and space of the project - which included colour theory, signs and symbolism.
Master of Arts (Media Studies) - Interactive media
With interactive media my research is based on the human interaction with media, whether this be social media, video games, websites and technology. It is my job to understand the connection and emotions between the interaction including usability and future thinking on the relationship between media, technology and people.
Although much of my work has been theory based, my overall goal is producing art and concepts that can be enjoyed nationally and globally. You may not see your project as an addition to art but it is important for me that your personal, business or organisation identity is visible throughout the project and that those who see it or interact with it have a positive user experience.
